Player's Recent Off-Field Troubles

Rice was absent for the first six games of this NFL campaign following an league-mandated ban for his role in instigating a crash on a Texas roadway that resulted in multiple people injured. He was sentenced a month of incarceration and five years’ probation after pleading guilty to serious offenses.

Statistically, Rice concluded the season with 53 catches for 571 yards and five TDs as the Kansas City finished 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a decade.
