Edwards along with Gary O'Neil are two of the early names under consideration to replace Vitor Pereira as manager of Wolves.

Pereira was sacked on the weekend after the team's 10-match winless start to the Premier League season.

And both candidates - each of whom have previous links to the team - are part of the names to be evaluated by the club leadership.

Edwards is presently at another club, which would create a possible obstacle to his appointment at Wolves' stadium.

However the former Luton Town manager - who made more than 100 of appearances for Wolves during his time as a player - is said to be a strong contender for the vacancy.

The 42-year-old is said to have support from the club directors as they start the search of hiring a new head coach.

O'Neil is also appearing as a surprise contender, even though he would be a surprising appointment given he was released by the club in the previous winter.

The former West Ham midfielder is out of work meaning the club would not be required to pay any buyout fee.
